system/easy-kernel(?): issue booting iMac G4 (15-inch Early 2003)
Reporter has:
- iMac G4/800 (15", Early 2003)
- GeForce 2 MX (32 MB DDR, native res 1024x768)
- USB and DVD media were both tried
They reported that booting the live MATE image resulted in purple text on a grey background, and then the screen eventually went blank after printing messages about Dracut.
<hwa> hello, any advice why on iMac G4 the installer goes to blank screen after a while. The last message is about dracut and then nothing
<hwa> 800Mhz 15"
<hwa> geforce 2 . Currently running tiger
<hwa> yes, I have used the latest media. Same happens both with usb-media and dvd.
<hwa> I can't take any photos now.
<hwa> I have not tried any other linux distributions. I tried freebsd and that goes (in text mode) as far as I should partition the disk. I was not yet willing to do that, though
<hwa> one thing to add is that with both freebsd and Adelie the text is purplish colour on grey background
<hwa> tiger runs ok. No issues at all
<hwa> name of the media is adelie-live-mate-ppc-1.0-beta5-20231027.iso
I can't repro on the iMac G4/800 (17-inch) in the lab, but that has a GeForce 4 MX (due to having the 1440x900 res). This is reminding me somewhat of #1101, but that was with the 4 MX and only with ADC displays (VGA work fine). The purple text especially reminds me of the graphical corruption I saw in 1680x1050 mode.
