## Description
**Created [attachment 35](/uploads/40c8a832037b9f01e551c3df095ae881/reproducer.c)**
Reproducer program
When compiling the attached reproducer with gcc -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=1 -O1 reproducer.c, I get the following failure when running it in a paleozogt/adelie docker image:
# ./a.out
Assertion failed: (fdslen / sizeof(*fds)) < nfds (libgcompat/socket.c: __poll_chk: 52)
This assertion seems bogus to me:
https://code.foxkit.us/adelie/gcompat/-/blob/715b50e/libgcompat/socket.c#L52
The expression is identical to that in glibc, but the logic is inverted:
https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=blob;f=debug/poll_chk.c;hb=07ed32f920f0bcb1ddb400e4ed606104756dee32#l24
Reproducer compiled on Ubuntu 19.10 with gcc (Ubuntu 9.2.1-9ubuntu2) 9.2.1 20191008.

## Description
When you're installing Adélie manually from the live system on a USB key, the USB key will be seen as /dev/sda by the system, while your first internal hard drive will be seen as /dev/sdb (it may also be /dev/hda vs. /dev/hdb or /dev/vda vs. /dev/vdb, depending on the hardware).
This will create a problem later, if you run
# grub-install --boot-directory=/boot /dev/$disk
with the value of $disk derived from what the currently running live system sees it as (sdb) because once the USB key is removed, the system will see the internal drive as sda.
Now, if the grub.cfg created during installation contains root=/dev/sdb<partition number>, this will cause a kernel panic because the root fs cannot be found. You'll have to change it back to /dev/sda<partition number> to work properly.1.0-BETA3https://git.adelielinux.org/adelie/docs/-/issues/86Admin Handbook, chapter 1: Revise introduction to "The shell environment"?2021-05-12T03:52:56ZEmilyAdmin Handbook, chapter 1: Revise introduction to "The shell environment"?

## Description
Section "The shell environment"[1] currently starts like this:
The shell environment, also called a terminal or console, is an interface
where you type commands in to a command processor (the shell), and view the
results of the command on your screen.
I'd suggest to change that a bit, to something like this:
The shell environment, also referred to as the terminal, the console or the
command line, provides a text-based interface where you type commands into a
command interpreter (the shell) and view the results of their execution on
the screen.

https://distfiles.adelielinux.org/adelie/1.0-alpha7/iso/ says:
If you have an older computer with a 32-bit Intel x86 processor, choose the pmmx ISO.
But then there's no pmmx ISO offered on that page.
Also, the list of downloadable images includes "Parent Directory", "header.html" and "footer.html", which is supposedly not intended.

## Description
The installation guide at https://help.adelielinux.org/html/install/ is missing information on how to create installation media using Linux or BSD systems. I've put that together as far as burning ISO images to CDs goes. I can add instructions for flash devices shortly if you'd like that.
Btw, I'd change the heading of that section from
Creating the installation media
to
Creating installation media
Ok, here's the text:
On Linux or BSD systems, you can use either 'cdrecord' or 'cdrskin' to
write the installation image to a CD via the command line. Both commands
basically share the same syntax.
For example, to burn the image onto a CD at a speed of 4 and with
verbose command output, run:
cdrecord -v speed=4 <image>
or
cdrskin -v speed=4 <image>
replacing <image> with the file name of the image you want to burn onto
the CD.
If there's only one optical disc drive on your system, it should be
auto-detected. If not, find the device name using 'dmesg' or 'lsblk' and
specify it using the 'dev' option, for example:
cdrecord -v dev=/dev/sr0 speed=4 <image>

## Description
An initrd is required to boot Adélie in any of the following situations:
- root (/) is not extfs (XFS, JFS, BTRFS, NILFS2, F2FS, Reiser, and NFS are all modules)
- root is on LVM
- root is encrypted
- user desires better support than sg / ATA_GENERIC (all vendor-specific SATA/PATA controller drivers are modules)
We have no system to create them. The following choices are available in Portage:
## dracut
This was originally Red Hat's initramfs generator, which has since been 'absorbed' into kernel.org.
## genkernel (-next)
This is Gentoo's initramfs generator.
The following other choices are likely able to be packaged for Adélie:
## mkinitcpio
Used by Arch Linux.
## mkinitfs
Used by Alpine Linux.
We could also write our own.1.0-ALPHA2https://git.adelielinux.org/adelie/horizon/-/issues/222No help screen defined for Wi-Fi network page2020-09-25T23:49:20ZEmilyNo help screen defined for Wi-Fi network page

## Description
The successful scan prompt is "Select your wireless". This is not even proper English.
When WPA Supplicant is not started on the target, the prompt shown is "The wireless subsystem could not be contacted (Code". This is wrong and made both our tester and myself (the principal engineer of Horizon) think that the label was being cut off.
When a network with WEP/WPA security is selected, it is not immediately obvious that the passphrase needs to be entered for installation to proceed. Our tester tried to choose Next, and upon finding that disabled, thought the solution was to click Add Network. This needs significant redesign.
The passphrase input line does not have the "eyeball" icon to display the passphrase being entered, unlike every other passphrase input line in Horizon. This caused the first association attempted by our tester to fail, because the passphrase was entered incorrectly.1.0-RELEASEhttps://git.adelielinux.org/adelie/image/-/issues/188adelie-full-pmmx-1.0-beta3,beta4 do not boot on a Shuttle XPC SN41G22021-05-12T03:59:07ZEmilyadelie-full-pmmx-1.0-beta3,beta4 do not boot on a Shuttle XPC SN41G2

adelie-full-pmmx-1.0-beta4 (and beta4) fail to boot on my Shuttle XPC SN41G2, leading to a kernel panic.
Booting the DVD media from the DVD drive works, GRUB gets loaded, the kernel too, but it has problems to find the root filesystem, looking through several /dev/loopX. After a while this leads to a kernel panic (see screenshot).1.0-BETA3https://git.adelielinux.org/adelie/image/-/issues/247Graphical issues on mac mini ppc (Radeon) - can't start live session2021-05-12T03:59:10ZEmilyGraphical issues on mac mini ppc (Radeon) - can't start live session

## Description
Hi all,
I am willing to install Adelie Linux on my mac mini ppc G4 that works fine under OS X 10.4. I am using a CD with live version of Adelie 1.0-RC1.
Grub menu is fine, then early boot sequence is OK with coarse display settings, but as soon as screen resolution changes (I guess video drivers loading), screen turns black or starts flashing.
On the web, people having installed linux on this machine have added some kernel video parameters like:
radeon.agpmode=-1 video=radeonfb:1024x768
or:
radeon.modeset=0 radeon.agpmode=-1 radeonfb=1024x768-32
I tried the first one in grub with no luck. But, first thing first, I wonder if all these parameters are still correct with the kernel used in Adelie?
If someone could point me towards the right kernel documentation, I am happy to make some testing.

Hi all,
I guess it is the same reason as stated in bug 96 (https://bts.adelielinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96), but as it is a different machine, I prefer to file a different bug.
Live CD 1.0 RC1 doesn't see the PATA drive inside the mac mini. The same drive is fine under OS X 10.4.
Do you need lspci output for this machine?

Logical volume "root" created.
The need for "-An" is because /etc is read-only and therefore it cannot make a backup of the PV layout in /etc/lvm/archive, and that is probably ok. Can someone trace the mlock and see if that issue is also caused by read-only /etc, or if something more sinister is occurring on the live CD? I really don't want to ship anything even remotely resembling that output in a user-facing utility.1.0-ALPHA2https://git.adelielinux.org/adelie/image/-/issues/16apk-tools on CD cannot connect to HTTPS mirrors2016-10-26T08:19:51ZEmilyapk-tools on CD cannot connect to HTTPS mirrors

## Description
Hi there!
I've been checking in with your project over the last few months and it seems interesting. At least I've been looking for something similar to Gentoo but with actual binary package support for a long time.
Unfortunately I've never been able to boot the ISOs due to a lack of a CD drive. Well, I didn't try running isohybrid before dding to the USB stick but I think there's more to it than that. I guess I've been spoiled in recent years and it tends to work, or alternatively something like a raw .img file is provided. Sorry for the lack of description beyond "it doesn't work!", but it doesn't seem to even reach a boot loader, EFI or not.
Also, it seems there are some fields in this report template it probably shouldn't let me fill out but does, such as assignee and confirmed status, etc.
Thanks, Tod1.0-ALPHA5https://git.adelielinux.org/adelie/shimmy/-/issues/66getconf(1) might want to support glibc specific _NPROCESSORS_ONLN2019-01-09T17:53:26ZEmilygetconf(1) might want to support glibc specific _NPROCESSORS_ONLN

## Description
Some build systems (at least strace and glib) seem to decide number of concurrent jobs based on a glibc-specific getconf(1) variable, _NPROCESSORS_ONLN.
It would be useful if we could emulate this. I don't think it is so hard to determine the number of current CPUs from C in Linux.
